Morale is a shared reserve used by the players. It does not have a maximum capacity, but it is emptied at the end of each encounter and cannot be accumulated or spent outside of combat.

Gaining Morale

Morale can be gained in the following ways:

  • At the start of each combat round the party gains 1d morale.
  • Vanguard characters can generate morale with their skills, traits and talents.
  • Certain enemies or objectives might grant additional morale during combat, as determined by the GM.

Spending Morale

Characters can spend morale in a variety of ways, but each character can only spend morale once per round at most.

Generic Uses

The following is a list of ways of spending morale that are available to all characters:

  • Charge: Before starting your movement during your turn, you can declare a Charge. If you do, spend 1d morale and flat roll it. Depending on the result, you gain MOV for this turn as follows:
    • 1-2: MOV +1
    • 3-4: MOV +2
    • 5-6: MOV +3

Morale Boost

Certain skills allow spending morale to gain additional effects. This will be notated in the skill description as boost X where X is the morale cost of boosting the action. The effects of boosting the skill will be explained by the description and can range from simply increasing its numbers to giving it additional effects.
